Biographical Sketch

(As seen on the nomination petition)

I have served on the board two years and provided over a decade of leadership for the building, volunteering for committees, giving input on the budget, and participating in Board of Directors meetings. I led us as we urgently adopted online platforms adjusting to guidance from county and state health officials. I enjoy knowing about our mechanical systems and put together a tour to help residents understand our hidden infrastructure. Click here to take the tour.

Professionally, I have 20 years of experience advising nonprofit organizations (like The Willoughby) on communications, technology, finance, and operations. Implementation and management of finance and information systems like BuildingLink is a big part of my career. I also work with digital communication platforms, databases, and mobile apps, to ensure efforts meet the specifications, budget, and expectations. I gained an understanding of fiscal responsibility, accounting principles, inventory, risk management, customer service, tax planning, and legal compliance from years of operating a small business. I earned a B.S. in computer science and have been awarded Eagle Scout.

Platform and Campaign Pledge

(As seen on the nomination petition)

As we continue to weather the pandemic’s effects, I will focus the board on providing governance, orienting a new general manager, and improved engagement with owners and residents. To achieve this, I will continue to advocate more options for residents to interact with the building and Board of Directors. I helped us transition the building towards email, text, and online platforms for those that opt in. Owners can access documents online and remotely participate in Board of Directors and committee meetings. After the pandemic, I plan to lead the effort to improve our outdated bylaws and regulations.

The building has implemented items I have recommended including: handicap buttons on doors, long-range sensors for the garage, free HDTV, rooftop WiFi, the BuildingLink system, and meetings on zoom. I helped raise awareness that increases on the reserve study were unsustainable and needed to be rethought.

I would like to thank the hundreds of owners who supported me and voted for me in the past. I enjoy talking to neighbors about ideas for the building, so please call, text, or email (see reverse)and VOTE your proxy for me!

Ideas

  • Modernizing systems to improving efficiency:

We must continue to adopt new systems and question doing things “the old way”. We have modernized announcements, office communications, and as we continue to adopt and refine systems it is a good time to have a management systems expert on the board. Communication methods have advanced and we need to continually find better ways to interface with owners and residents.

  • Reopen and re-imagine shared amenities:

As the pandemic starts to recede we will need to evaluate how our building could leverage the outdoor spaces, party room, roof areas, and entrance lounges to improve the quality of life. Why not activate the community with a range of activities that appeal to residents?  Even in these difficult times, many projects will need to move forward that are critical. Lobby designs need to be modern and efficient.

  • Customer service and enforcement of rules:

We need to refine and improve the experience for new residents and help them learn about the rules in a supportive way.  If rules or penalties are outdated they should be revisited in collaboration with existing owners and residents.  I’d like the building to continue to improve customer-service focus so that we can ingrain mutual respect between the staff, residents, guests, and contractors.

  • Resident participation and transparency:

I have always advocated for providing residents opportunities to share and participate.  In my view residents, should have many ways to provide comments or feedback before decisions are made.

I led on the effort to establish a smoking policy survey to gauge residents’ opinions about whether existing rules need to be updated.

I believe owners and residents should be encouraged to send in meeting agenda items for topics they would like the management or board to discuss at the monthly meeting.

  • Modernize the website:

As an expert, I’d like to help the Willoughby improve the online systems so that there is more information and opportunities for two-way communications.  This could be done at little or no cost if we choose free or open source platforms and leverage the talents of owners and residents.
