Biographical Sketch:  I am a senior program manager for the World Bank Group. I work regularly on procurements and projects related to corporate services including facilities management areas like security and fire safety. I also direct communications campaigns and serve in the institution’s conflict resolution program helping resolve disputes between staff and management. Prior to the Bank I spent 20 years as a journalist for national news outlets including Reuters, Congressional Quarterly and Standard & Poor’s. I am a native Washingtonian with a bachelor’s and masters both from the University of Maryland.

Board Experience: I am on the Board of Directors for another condo property I own in Delaware; I also have held leadership positions in many non-profit/community boards including: Women’s Council on Energy and the Environment, US Association for Energy Economics, World Bank mentoring program and University of Maryland Public Policy Alumni Board.

Platform and/or Campaign Pledge: We all want a Willoughby that is financially strong now and into the future. To protect our interests, it is important for all owners whether you live here or not to have your voice heard on how your condo fees are being managed. I pledge therefore to be a civil and collaborative force that will drive outcomes in a timely and transparent way. This includes taking the following immediate steps if elected:

  • Promote better owner participation in Board decisions by distributing agenda items AND background material for review and comments from owners at least two weeks before decisions are made in open Board meetings.
  • Set clear timelines to revise bylaws and rules based on owner survey: this would include but not limited to banning smoking and allowing pets; set better eligibility requirements and clear process for board elections; responsible and controlled accessibility to common outside areas like roof and courtyard. We also need to make the building easier for older/disabled residents to navigate.
  • Expand real-time communication tools  so your voice is heard. This includes better leveraging of Building Link and an interactive website, electronic newsletter and blog by board members so there is true two-way information flow between board and owners.
